Top 10 Nostradamus Predictions

This is a list of the most famous Nostradamus predictions. Michel de Nostradamus (1503-1566) was a medic, as well as a pharmacist and a seer. He is famous for his prophecies which cover a large period of time and are believed to be astonishingly accurate. The 10 predictions listed below are taken from his book, “Les Propheties”, the first edition of which appeared in 1555.

1.The death of King Henry II of France

The young lion will overcome the older one/on the field of combat in a single battle; /He will pierce his eyes through a golden cage, /two wounds made one, then he dies a cruel death.”(Century 1, Quatrain 35)

It is said that Nostradamus warned King Henry that he is soon to die. As predicted, he was killed by Comte de Montgomery in Jousting (a contest in which two opponents mounted on horses that are confronting by using lances).Montgomery was 6 years younger than the king and both of them had shields with embossed lions. The king was wounded accidentally by Montgomery (who did not lower his lance on time) in two places: a piece of the shattered lance entered the eye and a piece penetrated his temple.

2.The Great Fire of London

.“The blood of the just will be demanded of London/burnt by the fire in the year 66″(Century 2; Quatrain 51)

This is an amazing Nostradamus prediction and this is because he succeeded in giving not only the location of the event, but the year as well. As foreseen, the great fire of London started on September 2nd and continued for 5 days. Apparently, it destroyed the homes of 70.000 people, of a total of 80.000 residents of the city as well as 87 churches. However, 6 people died only, thus this part of the prophecy was not accurate.

3.The French Revolution

Before the war comes, /the great wall will fall, the King will be executed,/ his death coming too soon will be lamented. /(The guards) will swim in blood,/ Near the River Seine the soil will be bloodied.”(Century 2, Quatrain 57)

In 1789, the French revolution marked one of the greatest social and political changes in the history of France. As predicted, the great wall (that of Bastille, a famous prison for the political convicts mainly) was destroyed by the angry Parisians and this demolition marked the beginning of the revolution. The absolute monarchy that had governed France collapsed and a new order was born with the sacrifice of the poor. This prophecy of Nostradamus which fulfilled 2 hundred years after his death is one of those which made him one of the most famous figures in history.

4. The rise of Napoleon

PAU, NAY, LORON will be more of fire than of the blood, / to swim in praise, / the great one to flee to the confluence./ He will refuse entry to the Piuses,/ the depraved ones and the Durance will keep them imprisoned.” (Century 8, Quatrain 1)

The famous emperor of France was anticipated by the Nostradamus predictions as well. The words “Pau, Nay, Loron” seem encrypted but they are actually an anagram which forms the words “Napaulon Roy”. Popes Pius VI and Pius VII are the ‘Piuses’ mentioned in the third line. They were both in conflict with Napoleon, who had conquered the Papal States. The quatrain also describes Napoleon as a man of fire (of war) rather than one of blood (of royal descent). This was also incredibly accurate.

5. World War II

Beasts ferocious with hunger will cross the rivers, / the greater part of the battlefield will be against Hister./ Into a cage of iron will the great one be drawn, / when the child of Germany observes nothing.”(Century 2, Quatrain 24)

This is only one of the several quatrains which describe the World War II. The first line is generally interpreted as Hitler’s invasion of France. The second line refers to the Alliance that put an end to Hitler’s reign of terror while the third line may represent a description of the German tanks, of which the 16th century man had no knowledge. The child of Germany is, as you probably guessed, Hitler himself.

6. Louis Pasteur

The lost thing is found, hidden for so many centuries, / Pasteur will be honored as a demigod/ this happens when the moon completes her great cycle, /he will be dishonored by other winds.” (Cenutury 1, Quatrain 25)

This is considered as one of the most accurate Nostradamus predictions. This is mainly because Nostradamus gives the exact name of this famous scientist. Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) discovered the existence of the microscopic germs. He is also known for his great work regarding the causes and prevention of diseases. A medic himself, Nostradamus was very concerned with plague and hardly tried to discover its causes and its treatment. Thus, he had a connection with Pasteur which was probably the reason of predicting the life of this particular scientist. The last line probably refers to the detractor who accused Pasteur of having facked his results.

7. Charles de Gaulle

Hercules King of Rome and of Annemark,/three times one surnamed de Gaulle will lead,/Italy and the one of St Mark to tremble,/First monarch, renowned above all.”(cenutury 9, quatrain 33)

This is one of those astonishing quatrains that feature Nostradamus’s predictions regardings the rulers of France. Charles de Gaulle (1890-1970) was a leader of France three times (three times one surnamed de Gaulle will lead). First, he was the leader of the Free French Forces, during the World War II; then, he became prime minister of the provisional post war government; the third time, he ruled the country as the first president of the French Fifth Republic.

8. The death of the Kennedy brothers

The great man will be struck down in the day by a thunderbolt,/ an evil deed foretold by the bearer of a petition. /Another falls at night time. /Conflict at Reins, London and a pestilence in Tuscany.” (Century 1, Quatrain 27)

In 1963, US president John F. Kennedy was shot (hit by a thunderbolt) at 12:30 p.m His brother was assasinated in 1968, shortly after midnight. The accuracy of the prediction is amazing. Moreover, in the course of the same year, students rioted in Paris and london while in Florence a huge flood threatened the lifes of the citizens and brought the danger of plague within the city.

9.The death of princess Diana

The penultimate of the surname of Prophet/ will take Diana [Thursday] for his day of rest: / he will wander because of a frantic head, /and delivering a great people from subjection.” (Century 2, Quatrain 28)

Princess Diana, who is clearly named in the quatrain, was killed in a car accident in 1997. She was accompanied by her boyfriend, Dodi Al-Fayed who was the son of Mohammad Al-Fayed (thus, the prophet). “The day of rest” is Sunday, the day Diana died, while the verse “delivering a great people from subjection” may be explained by the amounts of people that gather to mourn Diana: the entire world grieved the death of this beloved princess.

10. 9-11 Prediction

Volcanic fire from the center of the earth/ will cause trembling around the new city:/two great rocks will make war for a long time. Then Arethusa will redden a new river.”(Century 1, Quatrain 87)

This is one of the most mystrious of the Nostradamus predictions and it is said to be related to the attack on the Two Towers of World Trade Center , in New York City. In this quatrain, the new city seems to refer to New York city, while “the center of the earth” probably means World trade Center. Moreover, the two rocks may be the two twin towers. This attack determined the American government to start a war against terrorism which will not end any time soon. Arethusa is believed to be another of Nostradamus’s anagrams which could connect to the name “Laden”.
